Cancer has become a number one killer in the world,
dislodging Hiv/Aids and Malaria Combined. It is disturbing that one out of
every three people do not have a clear idea on the cause of cancer. Therefore,
there is a worldwide need to deliberate on avenues that may help in curbing the
wide spread causes of cancer to the general public at large.
According to a recent research by
NASA, Indoor Plants (House Plants), have been established to be able of de-toxin
a room. House plants are capable of removing up to 87% of indoor air
pollutants, including highly toxic ones like benzene, trichocloroethylenes and
formaldehyde, all commonly found in homes.
Such air pollutants were not a
real threat until recent years. Most of them come from electronic gadgets,
carpets, adhesives and other fittings in modern homes. Indoor plants take in
carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and release oxygen: raising oxygen levels
and in the process cleaning air by taking in other pollutants too. According to
the National Library of Medicine, concentrations of 10% or more of carbon
dioxide can cause convulsions, unconsciousness, or even death.
Trees and
vegetation also neutralize free radicals, the positive ions from atoms that
have an unequal number of electrons and neutrons. Free radicals break down
human cells and cause acidic build-ups, raising stress and fatigue and even
causing cancer. They are much denser in urban indoor environments as they are
given off by high voltage networks, heating and cooling systems, TVs, Radios,
Transmitters, Radar Systems, Computers, Car Exhausts and cigarette fumes. Yet
it takes just one potted plant per 100 square feet home or office space,
according to the Folliage for Clean Air Council, to eliminate such toxins and
reduce carbon dioxide levels. Of maximum benefit say the experts, is an array
of three plants in each room.
Some of the most effective plants
as indoor cleaners are the Areca Palm Plant (Dypsis Lutescens), English Ivy,
Dracaena Marginata, Peace Lily, The Gerbara Daisy, Boston, Mother –in-Law’s
